I know that it has been about a week since “the man with the Golden Voice” started appearing on our tv screens but its the beginning of the year and this was one of the first things that really captivated me. I hadn’t heard of him until the end of the week when the hype had died down because I was hibernating in my room doing completely nothing whilst trying to avoid the inevitable notion of studying (STUDent DYing), how I regret that now.when i did hear his story on the tv i immediately thought of…..
1 Corinthians 1:27-29
“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and God has chosen the base things of the world, and things which are despised, and things which are not, in order to bring to nothing things are; so that no flesh should glory in His presence”
and
Romans 11.29
“For the gifts and calling of God [are] without repentance”
(Hmmm I should’ve just copied and pasted that)
Ted Williams is a person who experienced life in many ways and whatever his circumstances, it rendered him homeless. I seriously can’t imagine a lower existence on this earth than someone who has no roof to shelter their heads which have now been infested with bugs that have grown an entire population, wearing the same clothes for days on end just because they’re the only source of protection from the harsh weather that beats you in the night, even then you’re hoping that you don’t come across an unstable person who thinks that your life is worthless and decides to brutally violate your existence…. yet still hoping that one person (out of the many passing by who acknowledge your presence but dismiss your cry for help) will assist your life in its … slow recovery from shameful begging, public defecation, constant hunger and only God only knows the other struggles that being homeless entails….I seriously can’t because I haven’t been in that position.
Who would listen to a person in that circumstance seriously….i mean why, what do they have to offer..right??
What struck me was that in that position Ted Williams (with his ever so cool wind blown hair) even as he was told to “work for his dollar” by the camera guy, was in calm state of mind and seemed quite happy. Even at that low stage of his life he had written on a piece of cardboard ” I have a GOD given gift of voice”, publicly declaring the only thing that he owned belonged to God. Ted had been brought so low in his life having battled the unimaginable addiction of alcohol and drugs which caused him to lose his family, and that the only thing that i imagined got him through the unbearable days was his faith.
I know that it was extremely superficial of me to see his state of being and expect nothing but overhyped news, but none the less I was reminded that regardless of your situation God will never take your gifts away from you…whichever way you decide to use them, it is yours to keep. I was also reminded that God can use absolutely anyone, and will often use someone who we deem absolutely useless because of their appearance, lack of knowledge or talent to carry out his work. One of my favorite quotes so far is “God doesn’t call the qualified but qualifies the called”
In this emotional clip I see nothing but what God has done in this mans life. He was a distraught person but having found God at his lowest, he is just grateful for the fact that he was delivered out of his situation. I can’t imagine being disconnected from my mum for so long and man he had to battle alot of things before he came to the realisation that God is the head of everything. And thats one of the hard ways of finding out. We may have somethings that we don’t like in our lives but be greatful for the fact that you are not where you used to be and that you are not in the position of homelessness or any state which is worse than your situation now, and I hope none of you reading this will get to that state in future.
Its late, I need to study and I just realised how much you have read…sori abourrrit
